Chamber Celebrates Small Business Season

Small Business Saturday is approaching and the Terre Haute Chamber is choosing a new approach to celebrate. One weekend in November is far too little time to explore all the amazing small and locally-owned businesses that make up our business sector. That is why the Chamber is celebrating this year with “Small Business Season.”

Supporting small businesses shouldn’t be reserved for one day, every shopping trip offers residents a chance to help stimulate the local economy.

Shoppers and shops alike are encouraged to use the hashtag #smallbusinessseason when promoting their business or to show off when they’re shopping small. Anyone who uses the hashtag and tags the Chamber will be entered to win a basket filled with local gift cards or items that make perfect gifts and stocking stuffers. A winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 17 at 11 am via a Facebook livestream.

“Small businesses are what give a community its character,” said Morgan Leek, member engagement coordinator. “When you shop small, you are able to not only support the businesses, you support our entire region.”

According to a study by the American Independent Business Alliance, 68% of money spent at a small business stays local, which proves the impact of shopping small is felt long after the purchase.

“We know that when the winter rolls in, it’s tougher to get out of the house, it’s very tempting to do all your shopping online,” Leek said. “Supporting these businesses is important, and every one of them will be thankful for the effort.”

Local partnerships between the Chamber and the City of Terre Haute are a vital part of getting the word out about these businesses. The West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center will also serve as a valuable resource to promote small businesses. On WCShopSmall.com, there are even more opportunities to get the word out about small businesses.
